Megan Geston is a longtime Roosevelt School District leader.

Megan Geston was born and grew up in a small town in Montana, near the Canadian border. It was a very calm town, the type of small town where kids can be outside all day and parents wouldn’t worry about their whereabouts. As a kid, she loved outside activities during the summers, where she attended camps and traveled to national parks. She grew up around so much greenery, trees, parks, and living life outside not just in her home.
Megan’s original plan was to become a broadcast journalist. However, her interest changed with time and she chose a different route. In college, she changed her career to become an English major, she was then entered a teaching program after graduation. She joined Teach for America after earning her teaching license. This program set teachers out in different areas that teachers were most needed. At the time, Megan was newly married. She and her husband Chad were assigned to the Roosevelt School District in South Phoenix.
Moving to Phoenix was quite a shock for Geston, who was used to growing up among trees and mountains. As she drove down 7th Avenue each day in the early 2000s, she was taken aback by the desert and its barrenness. South Phoenix was also a new world to her. At the time, Chad and Megan were just getting their careers started in a part of the city that was known for poverty and blight.
Since her first teaching assignment in the Roosevelt School District, Megan Geston has greatly impacted the South Phoenix Community. She taught for several years until she became an administrator and a curriculum developer. She continues to lead the Roosevelt Schools.
Geston remains committed to public education and the role it can play in any student’s life. She says to students out there, “You have no idea how loved you are by your teachers, your principals and the staff in the school. And we are proud of each student in whichever path you choose to take.”
