Making the Most Out of a Bad Situation

By Jakob
Student, South Mountain Community College

Coronavirus has impacted not just my life as a student but my life as a whole. Not just my life is being affected by this, everyone’s has been and when I say everyone I mean everyone. I was born in 2000 and have witnessed so much in these nineteen years, however, this may be the weirdest thing we have faced. I personally look to take this Coronavirus situation for advantage. I was recently in a car accident, so now I look to focus on my online courses and hope to get my bag at work so I can get a new car. But since we are on lock down, not having a car for this short period has not been too bad because I shouldn’t (and now am not even allowed to leave), so I look to make the best of this situation.

With that being said it does not change that I am actually scared. I cannot be the only one with questions about this new virus. I personally do not know how we are going to beat this. Government wants social distancing and shelter in place at home, but what is the time period on this virus? It is not just going to go away and it is so contagious. Are we ever going to get through this?

As a student though, I was already fully online except for gym class, so those will be the only classes affected by this. My school schedule stays the same pretty much. Only thing I did not like was that online students had to get back to work right away while face to face students had extended break. But other than that, Corona has not impacted my school that much. But, I am not ignorant. I am aware of what is going on in the outside and I see the impacts: schools being cancelled , converting to online and the worst out of it is graduation being cancelled which is huge especially high schools. I am a freshman in college right now so I had just got off my high school graduation. Walking across that stage was the happiest day in my life. I personally feel so bad for the class of 2020 having that taken away from them. Along with those in high school who weren’t seniors having to try online school and my high school I know that they do not have the format or have Canvas like we do, but children still have to learn, so it is like making it harder on them. Now children are learning new stuff with a whole new way of learning.

Unless people close to me are affected this – in my opinion- is a good chance to get in your bag and make the most out of a bad situation.
